About Indy LFOE:

Q: What is Indy LFOE?

Indy LFOE (Love For Our Elders) is a youth-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting statewide senior isolation through kindness and compassion! We do this through handwritten letters and local volunteer efforts, bringing joy to seniors in care homes and communities across Indiana.

Q: How is Indy LFOE different from the international Love For Our Elders organization?

While we partner with and closely collaborate with the international Love For Our Elders organization (loveforourelders.org), Indy LFOE focuses on connecting Indiana communities through regional chapters, events, and outreach tailored to local elders.

Writing Letters:

Q: How do I write a letter?

Writing a letter is simple! Start with a kind greeting, share something about yourself, and include uplifting and encouraging words. Sign your name, and feel free to decorate your letter! See our Letter Guidelines for more information.

Q: Where do I send my completed letters?

Please drop off completed letters (without envelopes or stamps) at one of our handmade letter donation boxes at participating locations or events. Visit the Letter Box Locations page for more information!

Q: Can I earn volunteer hours by writing letters?

Yes! We offer 15 minutes of service for each letter you complete that follows our guidelines. Visit the Volunteer Hours page for more information.

Q: Can I write my letters digitally?

While we very strongly encourage handwritten letters to make them more personal, Indy LFOE does accept typed and printed letters with your signature and optional decorations.
